I'm going with this guy. He was good long before all the fancy clutches and transmissions we now have. Told me he just bought another stick car.

so paul mecure cant shift, glliden cant row gears, gapp, sox,tasca,phil bonner,lee sheaperd, I can go on and on and Ive strayed from the post but when I think stick guys I have to go to the inspiration for haveing a 4 speed in my car (liberty) and probably most others. everyone came from stock

I believe Bobby Warren was one of the best stock racers with a stick and Jack Mullins in a Pontiac station wagon in SS was pretty good too.
