I don't quite understand all the bitchin about lack of sportsman coverage. some of the mot outstanding coverage of sportsman racing is happening RIGHT HERE from some of the best commentators and photographers you could possibly hope for. with actual racers providing timely and accurate info. this list of reporting provided by the likes of Toby Lang-Larry Hill-Ken Miehle and Jack Matayas just to name a few far surpasses anything that could be provided from some suit at a tv studio. so next time you find yourself disgusted with espn coverage turn off that idiot box-get your lazy a%% off the couch and tune into Class Racer and Dragracecental for the best coverage of real dragracing one could possibly hope for. thanks again to Toby-Larry-Ken and Jack!

That coverage is great, for us. But it doesn't go beyond this site, so it doesn't sell sportsman class racing.

The top dogs at NHRA think of us as a financial loser in their eyes. BUT look at PINKS and PASSTIME, those shows have proven that we are marketable if produced right. Even NHRA noticed enough to create "unleashed" but because they are ALL accountants and failed business men they have NO passion for the sport and no clue how to make it work.
I did a bit on a local cable access show that my shop advertises on about stock and super stock and the producer said it was one of his highest rated episodes. It included driver interviews and pit footage BUT NHRA would not let him shoot film on the starting line. Even if we could find a production company we would still have to have our own race because NHRA would not let us steal our own thunder from them even if they are not remotely interested.
They are putting ALL their eggs in the pro basket. Good luck with that because pro teams are pricing themselves out of the market FAST!

Thumbs up Re: NHRA & ESPN must HATE sportsmen.

Does anyone remember back in the early 90's when ESPN covered IHRA drag racing and Bret Kepner did the sportsman interviews . They showed the last 2 or 3 rounds of eliminations with us . I was lucky enough to win hot rod class in 91 at New York International Raceway and was interviewed by Bret after i won . This was aired on ESPN. I still have a copy of that whole show/. Them was the good ole days . All the other sportsman had the same coverage that race and that whole year .Maybe Bret could get someone's interest in this again.

Instead of this CRAP they could show tidbits of sportsman racing and increasing the amount of actual racing.BUT NOOOOOOO they want to show "sounds of the strip" instead!

ARE YOU FREAKIN KIDDING ME!

The piss poor editing, lack of real racing and the "pro wrestling' mentality of NHRA on tv has once again confirmed that NHRA & ESPN HATE sportsman racing. WHY? Maybe because we are more interesting and they know it but dont want to let people know that.
Okay i have vented but seriously is there someone out there who can set us up with a good tv producer and get us our own show?

Does anyone else agree with me or am i just a ranting fool who believes we have marketing value?

Lawnmower racing gets better coverage than we do...
THIS is one of the best posts I have read on this forum in quite awhile. It should be sent straight to NHRA AND to ESPN.

It's not that they hate us, they just don't think about us. They could care less.

Kenny, I couldn't agree with you more (and I'm glad that many have added their thoughts to this as well). I wrote a (Reaction Time) letter to the editor of ND (nearly 10yrs ago), speaking of this same issue. Obviously my thougths were wasted, because there so-called coverage of the"Lucas Oil Sportsman" on ESPN2 only has given us 2 minutes worth of coverage over a 60 minute show (and that's not all of the national events)!!! We used to have "Inside Drag Racing" to enjoy divisional & national event coverage, but that went away in 2006...all IDR seems to show now is mostly SEMA stuff (with a little bit of racing...but I HAVE YET TO SEE ANY OF OUR CLASSES ON THAT SO-CALLED DRAG RACING SHOW!!!), and of course ESPN put them out to local FOX affiliates.

There so-called sportsman coverage (at the national events), should showcase the last two rounds of all the classes (instead of the alcohol (injected nitro) dragsters/funnycars! Once in awhile I've seen a Wheel-standing Stock/Super Stock car prior to (or post) a commercial, but not often enough.

Heck I even called Glendora about this (you see what that's done...not a damn thing!!!).

Perhaps with you (and many others amongst us) contacting them over this, perhaps there might be a sliver of hope that we'll get the coverage we deserve----heck if "Pinks All Outtakes", can (and did) show "FOUR" wheelstands by Al Corda's Pontiac during their highlight show, I don't buy the notion that people don't want to see our cars on tv (like someone here suggested).

WE DO NEED MORE COVERAGE!!!
