I was pretty competitive until the dragsters started showing up and going 170 to 180, and now even faster in D1.......... so I moved to S/G where I was doing pretty well and having fun going 9.90 @ 153 or 154........ BUT....... in D1 it seemed that in the drop of a hat most guys are running 163 to 168 with their recently new set ups........ and I'm really feeling that with some testing in the converter and tire area, these guy will easily be into the 170's .........

I really don't see spending a ton of money anymore in trying to keep up......and in a 27 Roadster there is only "SO FAST" before the front fenders start doing a funny dance....... I learned last year that I can dial my car and it responds and does what I want when I want it to........ the only problem I had last year was that I had it in my head that I had to have the stripe and it cost me a lot of rounds........ when you're the slower MPH car, you just have to learn your car and run the top end........ I'm making some low dollar changes that should pick up my power and MPH a bit, but it will probably be a wash cause the fast MPH cars will probably also be picking up...... I only hope they keep it safe......... don't know where this MPH thing will stop, but they all have to run 9.90........

So Dave...... just pit next to me this year and we can shake our heads together....... but whenever we hang out, we do enjoy the race.......
Charlie, I'm with ya...I didnt build a 165 mph car, and certainly dont have the budget to install a drivetrain to do that...I got some new heads from Santa this year and am looking at maybe 155 but thats it...I figure its about a 20 K hit at least to get 10 more MPH...

I honestly cant see a big deal trying to judge the finishline when im running 156 to 158 and the other guys coming on me at 165 actually i cant judge the finish line that well any way so that was just my 02. To me its not worth it to spend an extra 10 or 12k to pick up MAYBE 7 to 10 mph. I think we might try to run alchohol to try to get to about 160 but im not sure if the tank in the back would work im just not sure it the belt drive pump could keep up with it. Any suggestions??????

Having went thru the alcohol change from gas this past year I have some info...

If you are going to use an electric pump/carb, you might be able to do it...there are a few guys in D1 running
pretty good with a Nickerson set up, which uses a big pump and a regulator in the front with a by-pass..If you are going injection you pretty much need a front cell...

You wont have any luck I dont believe with a belt pump and rear cell...and if someone trys to talk you into a surge tank in the front, tried it, was very not happy with the results, and returned it to Rons..PM me if you need more details on that...

My .02 on the speed diff...I can do well enough at 150 judging 160-163 ish...more than that I just set up honest and see what happens at the line...some of these 170 guys are picking up 50 plus mph on the back half, so they are not there until 10 feet before the stripe...
I too hope to be closer to 155-157 this year so that should help me...

We had no issue with the belt drive pump in our dragster when we were running alcohol. Actually think we might be making more hp with gas on our engine though, with such a big CI. I run 9.90 @ 161-162, and I think I was the fast car in every round I went last year, except maybe one. Was to the red Corvette with the Diamond Engine motor in it. He ran around 170mph. Went flying past me around 1000' at the Indy divisional last year in 1st round. He went something like 9.70, while I hammered the brakes to slow down to a 9.95. Then again, I couldn't make it out of the second round at all last year, no matter how close to 9.90 the car was, somebody else was a hair better.

Ryan, most roadsters like mine and yours have the cell in back. It will work fine, WD 40 will be your new best freind with BEER/Alcohol for fuel.

Charlie ,,, you nailed my plan for 2009

"and I'm really feeling that with some testing in the converter and tire area, these guy will easily be into the 170's "

Dave ,, $20K is close

When I switched last year from a small block , it cost me $23K ,,,, I had to get Complete motor , engine plate, headers , gears , different converter ( The bad *** Red one from Hughs ) , Transmission , tires , box to shift on time and Diapers/Toilet paper for me ,,,, ( hey , I hope my wife isn't reading this post ,,,,Turning Money into Noise !! ) ---- On the plus side the sell of my Small Block , trans , gears , converter , tires etc ,,,, did get me
almost 1/2 the $ back ( one of my friends is putting the Small Block in a Chevette

Dave

It would be a belt drive pump with tank in back with carb......... i had a nova that had the tank in the front and it did fine just worried about it being in the back on the roadster.

I think there should NOT be any MPH rules. I run 150 in S/ST in div. 4, a couple of years ago when we starting going this fast people did CRY about it, but they have got used to it. If you dont like what US FAST cars are going, build a bigger motor or shut up and deal with. Just my 2 cents
