It can be and has been chaotic in the back. Thst being said, it was worse than ever.

This is a reflection of priorities from NHRA leadership ( accountants not racers) that really do not understand that this is impactful to many racers at Indy. There are people that work at NHRA that have the skills to manage this, but clearly, the leadership doesn?t allow it.
Posting inexperienced workers and giving them zero support was a huge problem.

The good news is that it is easily solved.

Call alternates to the lanes and let them all check in.

Do not run any singles until all of the alternates are locked in and lined up in qualifying order. Then they can just peel them off as needed and send the rest back.

I have been an alternate and it is very stressful if you really want to race. You need to know where everyone qualified vs your Q spot to make sure the uninformed staging Lane employee doesn’t miss you.

It can make a difference. I was an alternate in SS before and made it to the semi finals and had a legit shot at winning.

Could have easily been left hanging in the lanes.

The "NHRA Leadership" seems to ignore just what Indy means to many of it's Sportsman members. There are MANY Sportsman Racers who make it one of their lifetime goals to go to Indy, qualify at Indy and if not qualify, get in the field. Even if that means as an alternate. The significance of this is lost (or ignored) to the leadership.

They should have the alternates put the number they qualified at on there windshield in big numbers. 129, 130 Etc Etc. and have them in a row of there own.
