I would guess most Canadians like it, they just don't want to pay for it if they don't have to. I live in a border city, they shop here like crazy (food clothing, gas) because the cost of goods in their country because of taxes are so expensive. Where do they think the money to provide health care comes from?

In my Canadian Border city, most go down for elective surgeries. Columbia Mall in Grand Forks has become a ghost town because the good deals offered are not as plentiful as they were, thus keeping Canadians at home. Hotel deals at par are gone too. This is my take and call me a socialist if you wish but I am happy for my Canadian Medicare and will pay my share of taxes to fund it. My spouse and I also enjoy a very comfortable Old Age with Guaranteed Income Supplement and Canada Pension Plan in addition to the funds I put away in my RRSP (your 401K). High taxes notwithstanding, I've made a comfortable living in my birth country and nearing retirement, I know I enjoy the fruits of my working life. My country will soon be providing Dentacare and is phasing in Pharmacare starting with the Diabetic meds I am taking. My sojourns to the states are now pretty well limited to the Brainerd National Event and my odd trip to Lambeau Field.
