Sorry to hear this, what a great guy! My wife, Gloria, worked the lanes with Harold for several years across the country. RIP

We meaning the wife and I have missed Harold the last few years and his antics.
He was entertaining at the front of the lanes and always had something to say to us. He kept all the racers in line and paired correctly most of the time. The one time he mispaired me at the Sonoma National and I argued with him he was pretty upset with me however, when he realized his mistake he apologized every time he saw me for several events. He was one in a million and will truly be missed. I have many fond memories of my interactions with Harold and I can only hope to have as many race friends as Harold has. RIP my friend. Very sad to hear. I have two great memories of dealing with/talking to Harold and I remember them both like it was yesterday. RIP...

I met Harold during the Div 7 ET finals in 1998. After that I didn't think he liked me very much. he would always pair me up with a killer first round. In 1998 he paired me up with Ken Passerby and his Vega. Long story short, Ken never lost a round that year in the Gambler, Race of Champions, or Team race!
The next year He paired me with Leo Glassbrenner and I won the round, so next round it was Kyle Seipel! A few years later I went to work for NHRA and for over 20 years we had a friendship that grew pretty strong and during the race season we always worked together. We travelled the country together and had great times. He taught me so much about racers and racing with a few stories that would curl your hair! I will miss his humor and wit, and will never meet another like the legend, Harold Owens. |
