Hot Rod Drag Week is one of those bucket list items for me. Sadly didn't really know about the event the last time they were in the Northeast. I can't believe you'd run the risk of flattening your camshaft every time you start the engine with those flat tappet lifters

Been a pretty trying day(8 hr trip for 250 miles). All has gone well, we are currently 40 miles from Bristol, my favorite track by the way, and other than the 3000’ ascend we had to do, car has been great. I might add that the Gear Vendors Overdrive unit is too slick. The first year we did to see if we would like, and used as a chance to learn what it’s all about. We enjoy it enough, we are gonna keep making the car better. It’s for sure a must do for a gearhead like most of us are.

Well, just to update my status, I made some changes to the car, and have managed to ease up to number 31 of 120. The top 32 in Street Eliminator will get to participate in a 32 car bracket race. They add .1 to your average and that’s your dial for race, and it’s a pro tree style bulb. This could get interesting as we are trying to strategize so we don’t leave anything on table. Just to improve our performance from last year and make the field is a huge accomplishment. We are tent camping in Aiken, SC, which is where we run on Thursday before driving back to Darlington Friday, where we finish. Tent camping at every track, maybe a shower, and on road for 6-8 hours, 5 days in a row is tougher than you may think. Car has done well, us old guys are feeling it.

Well, that’s a wrap on Dragweek. We made it back to Darlington without issues, finished and managed to qualify for the bracket race. We were 29 of the quick 32. I was able to make a semi final fun were I gave it back .009. Had a great race car, and honestly felt like that race was mine to win…but we all know how it goes. Overall, a great, fun time, with a couple great buddies, and meeting really good people from different areas of the country. Let the planning begin of the next Drag n Drive…possibly Sick Week next Feb. Now to get home sat, unload, load the stocker, and head to Louisville on Sunday to make one shot and race the Open race with my son Braden behind the wheel, just maybe we can turn on more win lights.

Sounds like a FUN week. Just curious, was Shane R. with you, and if he was … did he run out of cigarettes ?

My son and I just got back Saturday from our ninth drag week together with his 10.40 small block 1968 Barracuda.
We got to meet Jim Carter at Carolina Dragway and had lots of fun on the trip. However like my son said nothing makes a Dodge D3500 feel like a Bentley than driving a thousand miles in a race car! Bill Lamb |
