I asked Bret Kepner if he'd heard about Emerald Coast closing.... he added Dinwiddie, US41, Quaker City and Redline Raceway in Caddo Mills TX as all closing in the past few days. Sheesh. At that rate there may only be street racing by next weekend.

I misinterpreted his reply, those were strips with fatal accidents not closed. Oops. But still Holt and Atco and countless other recent ones is kind of an epidemic.

Not trying to hijack this thread.
I think track closings and fatalities/injuries are two different issues. I have been getting the DRAW newsletter for a few years and am amazed at some of the incidents in their "Injury Report". They happen from the starting line through the finish line and sometime in bizarre fashion. I wonder just how thorough tech inspection is, in some of these 200mph, home built rides. |

I don't know if they had a fatal accident or not but unfortunately Redline Raceway in Caddo Mills is closing, at least that is what it shows on their Facebook page.

A lot of the reasoning is because the way the land is zoned and also it already had paved areas and cleared land, it’s an easy way to put something there. This is a way cheaper way to plop a building/ business there. The company buying ATCO was / is still going to have to jump through hurdles to get the car auction there but, they basically cut the owner out (thinking the racers would go with) and will deal with the town itself. The sad part is even if they do nothing with the land and I’ve heard it might sit for a few years it can’t come back as a track, it’s officially done and the wildlife will just take it back over. The owner can sell to whomever they want it’s just if the township approves the sale which I think will take some red tape cutting since they were turned down 9-0 before.
For D1 they are really going to have to sway some tracks back to NHRA that left (US13, MIR) but, Craig is going to have to dive in feet first. |
