Terrible news, got to know John better as he welded up my track locator bar at the 2020 BabyGators. Was so impressed how industrious he was so know he tackled everything with gusto; his articles were great and reflected his passion, his last article writing about wheeling his grandson around in a golf cart will be the image I will always carry with me. I couldn’t listen to any of the live broadcasts this past weekend, they simply made me miss listening to Unk. These losses are mounting and makes me read again Gary Sinnett’s article from couple of weeks back. Grab the gusto like John. RIP John.

These sad announcements are happening far too frequently. Drag racing has lost another great man, RIP John.

I hope that no one will take offense to this, but I think that the recently departed would be happy if we told nice stories about them. My Johnny D story: At New England Dragway in the middle to late '70's, there were 4 bracket classes. The 11.00 to 11.99 class was considered the toughest group of drivers. After the points season, Epping held a big dollar race. Rumor was the Johnny D was coming up from Englishtown. He was already known as one of the best bracket racers around. Johnny D came, Johnny D beat the best that we had, and Johnny D went home with the money!

I also want to say that he has been one of the best spokepersons for drag racing, and Sportsman in particular, that we have ever had.
