Car weighs 3700 with 200 lbs driver, estimated 650 horse, 10.30's @ 128 mph, 1.35-1.38 60ft with 2.74 1st gear with turbo 400. I was always told a 400 is stronger than a glide, but a lot of local racers have switched to power glides. They talked me into trying one, so I borrowed one from a friend that came out of a super stocker. Brought it back to the local tranny guy today. He installed a plate behind the tail shaft housing to cover the cresent channel. He Said that should fix the reverse issue. Brought it home, installed it back in the car. Still no reverse, and trans brake does not hold when activated in 1st gear.

We did verify that the trans brake plunger was moving far enough to block the channel. He also pressurized the system with air, which applied the band, then manually pushed the trans brake solenoid, and turned the input shaft, to verify 1st gear was working on the out put shaft. Not sure if I got all that correct, but that's why I bring it to a transmission guy. Sure is frustrating, had this tranny in and out 3 times this week.

He removed the 2.08 and replaced it with the 1.76 because he thought the 2.08 was too weak for my heavy high torque car. He was worried about me breaking the 2.08 set.

Sorry, but I'd say you need a new tranny guy. Someone competent would give you much better results. Think about it - he took a known working transmission and now after two or three times apart he STILL can't get it to work? And 400's are not that fragile either.
