Can you even buy a Steve Griner brake anymore? He passed away a couple years ago.

The Griner brake is no longer made after Steve's passing. Next closest is a copy of his being made and sold my Xtreme Automatics in Ohio. They were one if Steve's largest dealers for many years and began producing them after he passed.

I have one in my Coan 400xlt light weight/low drag th400.

The Griner was without doubt the quickest and most consistent TH 400 brake on the market .
Sold many of them . hopefully Xtreme will carry on the production.

Isn't the Hipster Brake a Griner design?

Not that I've seen, The Hipster valve bodies I've seen were still external solenoid where as the Griner has a unique internal solenoid design.

Last year I switched from a standard TCI brake to a ATI "Wicked Quick" brake in my TH400. It was worth about .030-.040 in RT and much more consistent.

When the Billet internal solenoid Valve Bodies started coming out I asked multiple manufacturers if they would be quicker than my old Hipster. Nobody would tell me they would be.

The ATI is very similar to the Griner .
ATI had been selling the Griner brake prior to the Wicked Quick version .
Any stock valve body based brake using the modulator valve will be much slower than the billet , internal brakes due to the small , circuitous passages and small valve diameters that come with using the OEM components.

Xtreme posted on FB a month or two ago that they are in the process of reproducing the Griner powerglide brake.
