Now, there are certain groups of people that are more at risk to get very sick or die from this. But, we have NEVER shut the country down for any contagious disease. Swine flew, SARS, Mad cow disease, common flu, etc. Now, just stop for a moment and think about this. If more people are dying from the common flu then this covid virus, WHY is everything shut down?
I can agree with what you're saying about the press sensationalizing everything. I don't think that certain parts of the country should still be shut down. I personally think that people should be given a bit more credit for using common sense in situations like handling money (or tires, gas cans timeslips). Wash your hands as many times as it takes.
HOWEVER, more people died from covid-19 last month than died from the flu in all of last year.

If that's true, and I'm not doubting you, I think that New York's subway system was a major contributor to the huge death figure. But, they're not shutting down massed transit via the subways, even though I would think they should........if I apply the expert's logic.

Well, as of 4/22/2020 42,500 people have died from covid-19. While 80,000 died from the common flu in 2019. Those stats are from the CDC. Shame on you if you can't decide for yourself instead of believing everything the press WANTS you to believe.

It appears to me that some of our fellow "competitors" have forgotten how to use simple math.

I can't quite tell what argument you are trying to make with that statistic, but we're talking about 42,500 in what, 6 weeks compared to a full year of common flu?

First case in California = Feb 3

As I recall: The flu is pretty seasonal and it just starting.
Some years it runs 80,000 plus.

I am being careful because of multiple health issues (Cancer/Diabetes/
Age) but not particularly frightened. At my age I do not know how much time
I have left (Does Anybody?) and I do not intent to spend it in my home!

Jeez Lenny, don't interject reality into the equation after all some of us are challenged by simple math, LOL!

But isn't the flu death count from ALL of last year, while the Covid-19 count if from a little over ONE month? Not quite apples to apples.

This was on our local news.

Ohio man who disparaged lockdown measures on Facebook dies of coronavirus
His alleged posts have gone viral amid protests and debates about the loosening of social distancing measures across the country.

Social media posts of an Ohio man who disparaged coronavirus lockdown measures are now circulating online after he died of COVID-19, the disease associated with coronavirus.

Screenshots of Facebook posts calling social distancing measures “bull****” have surfaced online just days after John W. McDaniel, 60, died of coronavirus on April 15. One screenshot of a post dated March 13 included an accusation that the virus was a “political ploy.”

“If you’re paranoid about getting sick, just don’t go out,” another post said. “It shouldn’t keep those of us from Living Our Lives. The Madness has to stop.”

The posts have gone viral, even getting the attention of British broadcaster Piers Morgan.

“Let his death be a warning to everyone else who wants to be ‘living our lives’ & ignore lockdowns - it may END your life,” Morgan tweeted Tuesday.

Be careful of your words. This was his post. "Does anybody have the guts to say this Covid19 is a political ploy? Asking for a friend. Prove me wrong."
~ John W. McDaniel, from Marion County in Ohio
