Bert knows exactly what he is talking about! If they cc without the spacer plate there is a ton to gain. And if there wasn't gains to be had in port volume, then why do they make'm. Air speed can still be retained with more volume.

It is measured without the spacer and not all engines use a spacer. There is a lot more to to volume to make power with cylinder heads.

You just don't get it. So why do you think they're doing this? The guy that was doing it obviously thought it had an effect.

Joey and Bert are correct. This is EXACTLY what Westcott did to build the monsters he and his dad ran in SS/AH.

C'mon, man. Westcott's Hemis don't NEED a spacer, because the manifold is fabricated to fit the drastically shortened runners. If you ever actually saw a Westcott Hemi, you'd see that the valve cover bolt holes are practically a half-moon shape, because the intake runners have been cut back so far.

WRONG, all there is stock location. I actual saw, bought, raced, fiddled with, broke yata yata. No need to whack out the class but some do to keep up. Moderator Please kick me out. This year I am thinking of a great name for the blue car. Phish |

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong and I apologize like a man. But I know, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that Westcott built some Hemi heads that were cut so far back on the intake side that the valve cover bolt holes were only half there. Maybe he didn't actually use them in competition (or maybe he got DQed because they were considered illegal), but I have seen them, with my own eyes.
