I would think that at 45 psi you could create leaks that normally would not exist. Check the oil drain back hole near the block water drain plugs. That is where the aluminum blocks have been known to leak water.

Maybe try using antifreeze vs water for testing. That stuff will find its way out of places water won’t.

Tried to installed new front cover, cam basket would not allow cover to seat against block. Going to machine cover for clearance, sounds easy. Just need to figure distance between cam and crank center line. Set mill up with riser blocks, 90* fence, remove front seal to pick up crank center line. Install bore head, fab tool, cut case 5.062 OD X 4.625 ID .060 deep on cam center-line. Piece of cake!
Reused old cover after inspection and cleaning with new seal. The block, heads, and water pump were holding 45# pressure for 30 minutes when I quit last night. Time to see if it leaked any last night, I'm crossing my fingers. |

In 12 hours it looks like it lost approximately .1 lb. of pressure. Just one more case of assuming something is ready to be reused without being checked. Shame on Me!
I would say it was just another " Stupid old man trick " but I'm smarter than that. Just not that time. Last edited by Larry Hill; 12-09-2019 at 12:07 PM. |
