I have been talking to Ed several times a day for the last few days while he is waiting for surgery. He is in good spirits but is very confused. He told me today he was going out tonight with friends for some beers and would come back to the hospital in the morning for surgery. He is in Florida and we talked about getting him back here in New England where most of us feel the best Hospitals are. But the surgeons don't think it's a good idea for him to travel at this point. Tonight after over 5 hrs of surgery we have good news. The surgeons were able to remove the whole tumor. He is not out of the woods yet and has a long recover. They now have to wait for the pathology report about the tumor. Thank you for all your prayers. There is strength in numbers. The surgeons did say that if they waited much longer he could have lost his sight. The tumor was up against the optic part of the brain. Again thanks to everyone that had him in their thoughts and prayers. Barry

I flew into Daytona Florida yesterday. As my luck would have it when I went to pick up my rental car I found out I left my credit card at the gas station in Westfield Ma after filling my motor home so my son could take it next week. Typical in a rush to get on a plane in the morning and to go over the details with him how to use it. Wife over nighted it to me. Anyway back to the Ed story. I drove across the state to Clearwater to where his hospital is. Not sure when he would be discharged. When I arrived Ed and his wife Helen were waiting for me in the discharge area. Back across the state and now Ed and his wife are home. He will be spending his days in rehab. It could have been so much worse. He is almost back to being himself. Hard to believe one week later from major brain surgery and your home. Sorry Ed but Frankenstein has nothing on you with those stitches. Barry
PS Ed I would rather eat worms than fly. Thanks to my wife for the medication. Thought I was on a cruise for most of the flight. I did see a lot of water. And talk about a small world. After my cabby brought me to a flea bag motel where you didn't need a credit card and could pay by the hour. I walk 2 doors down to eat at a restaurant. When I walk in there is Jerry who lives 2 towns over from me in Ma and used to go to the races with the famous Brian Fink. I have not seen him in years and didn't know he lived in this area for the winter. |
