As far as weight bias, they can be made to work very well using the same parts as their "car" brothers. My 66 is a little nose heavy, but pulls the wheels on the launch. |

Elky's were always in the books..as cars. Long before there were Stock trucks. Now, in some places, they're considered trucks. They were always marketed in the truck brochures, so that might be the new reasoning. As far as the wheelbase thing, I'd much rather have a G-body station wagon with a 305 or 350. I suspect it doesn't make a lot of difference with the V-6's.

The V/SA record is currently at 1.87 under and I understand this was an 87 El Camino with a 4.3 so this combo would be worth considering.

But as cool as I think the wagons are (and I'll openly admit that I've been shopping for wood-grained adhesive vinyl online), the young wife thinks station wagons/estates/shooting brakes are lame. And at the same time, she's always wanted to have an El Camino. A Holden HSV Maloo R8, to be specific, but that's just not gonna happen. Fortunately, she digs the '78-'87 El Camino too. Kind of ironic, that it shares the same chassis as the wagon I admire... |

79 305 4-bbl is good at 235. There are a couple of Arkansas boys that run fast with that combination in hardtop bodies carrying 243hp. The 80-83 small cam 305 engines are also good at 230, and the 84 is at 229. The 83-87 big cam 305s will take more work and $$. The 78-79 350 is good if you will run it as a manual trans; probably better in a SW.

Dwight, the big cam & flat top piston 305, 248 hp.is a good combination in the wagon & El Camino. Same motor in the Camaro is 275 hp.
