What kind of a low-grade moron would steal the Darrel Droke '65 Thunderbolt?

It was a one-of-one, as far as I know, and though highly successful, would be like stealing the original of the Mona Lisa; what the hell could you do with it?
Anybody who saw it would immediately know what it was... a stolen car; you couldn't sell it and you couldn't race it.

What an idiot...

Hey Bill. That car wasn't stolen. The cover art on the book is in reference to the 69 Camaro of Joe Oldham's that was stolen. The Droke car is simply MIA.

I went to visit Randy Payne a few weeks ago and read the book on the plane. Very well written and a lot of good stories about missing muscle cars and race cars. I had a great time spending the day with Randy swapping stories from back when he was with the Ford Drag Team. I learned a lot traveling with Randy and Hubert Platt for a couple of months after Indy 1969.

Awesome stuff, Rusty!

Hopefully one day the fate of the Torino will be known.
