This might be the anti-knock sensor, which will retard the timing as the engine gets hot, then returns to normal after a cool down. If you don't want to spend $ on a programmer or aftermarket ECM, you might get away with simply running higher octane fuel.

Maybe add a switch that lets you run the electric fan at will, especially when the engine is off.

On my 06 Magnum I was keeping track of intake heat (harbor freight heat gun) and ET. After awhile a pattern was showing. It did help a lot dialing later in rounds. Not perfect but helpful.
