I think NHRA should consider a flex quota. If they fill up before a certain grade point, like two or three they should consider opening it up.
Especially considering the fuel cost is more favorable than it has been in several years.

Shrinking the quota does not motivate too many to hit divisionals. Making the Nationals a better deal for sportsman does that.
If they were thinking they would open the quotas and make the Nationals so good that more people attend divisionals in order to get in.

Maybe I just don`t understand NHRAs logic, but to me it would make more sense to have the quotas set at a number that would make for a full eliminator field. Instead of having a limit of 60 cars, which would means numerous bye runs, making the quota 64 cars seems much more logical. Also, I thought that NHRA was streamlining their racer licensing procedure to encourage more Sportsman participation, doesn`t having Sportsman quota limits seem to work against that theory?

I believe that NHRA wants to encourage Sportsman participation at the Divisional level.
As far as the National level, I don't think they've figured out how to get us to go away yet.

Ya know guys , they have meetings in the Ivory Tower about the sportsman racers. Geez, what else can we do to discourage these guys ? We haven't raised the payout in years, put em in the north 40 pit area, make em take 4 days off for work, pee test the hell out them, I thought the muffler issue would thin out the Super Classes,,,and then a revelation....These guys just keep showing up, they just really love to race ??

MJ you just described the whole fall Charlotte race for me except the part about being yelled at for trying to drive around the end of the track. Even he looked surprised to know I parked on the other side.

Raise entry fees, lower quotas...

I think Billy is correct about what NHRA is attempting to do. NHRA sells the divisional program to the track that is putting it on for a "Package Price" That is the driving force in the change for the "Alky Sportsman" classes to go to a regional program. The cost of a "Divisional Package" got too high for the track owners to make a profit. Most of the tracks couldn't handle the 400 cars it took to crack the "nut" and make a profit. NHRA reduced the cost by eliminating the two most costly classes. With the Regional program they have a package they can sell to tracks that can handle the car count and have the spectator base that supports the Alky classes. Now NHRA has realized it must take steps to bring participation back to the divisional races. Everyone wants to skip over the Divisional races and enter the "Prestigious National Events". I've been told that Comp is usually subsidized by other classes. It doesn't have a paying car count. Study the recent rule changes that are directed at Comp. This is all just a numbers game with the numbers manipulated for a better bottom line. The real message is, Please consider yourself one of those numbers. That is just "Business in Corporate America".
