Thanks..!
IMHO... Pure Stock and PureStockDrags and FAST Classes come close to what you are asking.

The Limiting things should be Full Exhaust, Headers allowed, Limited Valve Spring (IHRA), which limits the Cam, (IHRA), register-able and legal to drive on the road.

IHRA Pure Stock is so close to what you are asking about.
A and Pure Stock may require Roll Bars for the 11.49 et rule.

Here a Crate Engine replacement for Pure Stock would help some of the older cars.
Just got to limit which ones. Most engines did not have much cam lift.
Such as installing an early 302 4bbl in an early Mustang where the 289 maybe tough to find.

Pure Stock or Jr. Stock should not have super stressed Stocker engines.

Should be able to convert many of the collectable cars with simple upgradable bolt on mods for safety. Such as front disk brakes.

For Decades drove my car to many a bracket race and since 2010 IHRA Pure Stock until mid last year.

In 1970.....Lebruns A/S'er ran around 11.40 at maybe 120 on 7" tires....at a stocker event at Island....We raced him with our H/S Chevy II and my driver fouled and both cars went .05 under the record. It's a vivid memory as I was standing right behind the starting line and it was 3rd or 4th rd....
I am just not sure whether his car was a Camaro or Corvette....just to long ago.....and he had numerous cars over the years....

I don't know if they ever ran in the 10's but it's possible.

Pistons and rings were less restrictive on the rules than the later version of stock..
Regrind cams were widely used...

Highly likely people were getting very creative even though getting caught was WAY more likely back then....

That was excellent then.
Today he would run close to a second faster.
Better tires, track surface, suspension, low drag rings, converters.
IHRA allowing a very small wag on the springs.

I agree with the idea of a cheap entry point.
The old Stock rules were good at the time but with the many, many motors and cars now you want to include it would be impossible with rated HP figures.
I suggest trying to start a basic LB/cubic inch like MOD. Eliminates factoring, dial ins, break outs unless there are multiple classes.
Levels the field day one with no bogus hp winners.

LeBrun's Corvette ran 10.94 or 5 at Gainesville in 1971. Mark Mazzotta at the controls. On the Q sheet from back then.

Yes ,I know it was a 7 lb A/Stocker and of Jim Waldo's milestone with a modern Stocker.
Junior Stock ended at OMS ,November , 1971. Paul Pappy Dilcher won the last Jr Stock race ever.

Back to the subject at hand in a few..

Didn't Tony Pizzi's 427 '69 Camaro run 10.99 as a B/S car at U.S.30? I remember an article on that car in SS&DI with a picture of the time slip. That was '70 or '71.

I am glad to see there is some interest. Some really good suggestions so far. Keep the ideas coming!! Maybe we can get something happening.

Dan,

I agree about IHRA Pure stock. I am building a car to compete, hopefully, someday. It is just an IHRA class, though, and the cars eligible are pretty limited. I guess I am looking to do something similar to what MANDRA does, but solely for a Pure Stock style vehicle with index's, weight breaks, etc..
