I'd love to see them drop the max of 250 lb added rule, so you could run an Opel GT.

So a 73 pinto fits SS/PA at 1938# with a 104hp engine....swap that to a 151hp 73 302 with canfield heads...12.83 factor, what GT class does that fit?....GT/J? 11.05 index?

Ahh, maybe I'm reading it wrong. Wonder what a pinto with a SS 302 would run?

'73 Pinto (hatch) weighs 2202 lbs.

Adding 250 lbs maximum allowable weight to the shipping wt. now = 2452 lbs.

The min. weight in GT is 2670 so that is what the car has to weigh with driver.

The SS GT/MA index is 11.75 at 14 lbs per factored h.p.

In the past it has been that cars not making the minimum (car) weight of 2500 by adding 250 lbs are not allowed to run GT. Doubt if that will change. The shipping weight of any car for SS/GT must be at least 2250 lbs or greater to begin with.

That's what I was thinking, but since I was not certain, I did not post that the '73 Pinto Hatch is not eligible.

However....the '73 Pinto wagon is eligible for GT with a factory shipping wt. of 2378 lbs.

The oldest Pinto hatch eligible for GT is the 1974 model @ 2366 lbs. shipping wt..

That would be cool!
I would be like in the early day of Dave Hutchen's terrorizing Modified Eliminator with the Opel GT!

I believe an Opal GT can and has been run in SS. Wasn't it one of the Zane Gang that ran it in SS/AX with a Buick V-6?

As Jason mentioned in the post above, to run SS/GT, you have to meet the minimum shipping weight. The SS/X classes do not have that requirement (and can have full tube chassis if I read correctly), so yes you can run one in SS/X classes. I just think one would make a really cool GT car with a late model fuel injected engine, especially with the separate RWD/FWD HP ratings now.

X2 Andrew. If the old Wayne County car was still around it might work well.
