Default Article in ND on Jon Jamison’s SS Chevelle

Nice story in latest National Dragster on Jon's Chevelle SS wagon.

Didn't know you could run 12 bolt gears in Ford housing, very interesting, learn something new every day.

Heck I can remember when about 1/3+ of all S/SS cars were wagons due to the better traction and lower class fit.

Perhaps you didn't read the Super Stock rules......"Any OEM type permitted" So any make OEM rear end can be used......

John, he is talking about 12 bolt gears INSIDE of a Ford housing. Very interesting as I myself did not know this.

Yea that set up has been around awhile. Comp cars are notorious for it. Uses a special 3 member (like a GM55 Style) only 2 pinion bearings instead of 3. Less Drag (like a 12 bolt) more Strength banjo set up(like a 9") best of both!
Tried to get this set up legal for my stocker but they said NOPE! But copos use a 9" I just wanna use the housing it would be GM Gear Type...still said NOPE. If I wanna do it they told me buy a new COPO LOL!!!!

That brings back memories...it seems like Rick Houser used that in SS/AA back in the 70's or early 80's....

Yep-- Strange makes em has for about 10 years--- called a 12 bolt drop out--- very light less friction ---not a real good selection of gears tho you are restricted to whatever 12 bolt gears are available-- you need a special case and spool to fit in the Ford 9"- works great in really light cars too---FED 387
