Prixmo---- you can use bolts/tabs/springs if you WANT to but you MUST use either a 1/2inch stitch welds/NHRA approved tethers/some type of device to bolt the collector to the body---I gaurantee you, you show up without a welded/tethered/or hanger bolted to the body collector you're gonna get bounced

"Secure the collectors/stacks with an NHRA-accepted header tether. · Secure the collectors/stacks with a minimum ½” (half-inch) stitch weld located on each primary tube. · Secure the collectors/stacks by permanently attaching them to the vehicle body or frame with positive fasteners such that they require tools for removal. Please keep in mind that the attachment methods listed above are meant to be a secondary method of attachment. All factory attachments, such as springs and/or bolts, must remain in place." Now slowly reread what both of us said, you need to use the original coupling devices (bolts/springs) and one of the 3 now approved tethering methods. Neither of us said you don't need one of the 3 approved tether methods.

OK getting clearer....clear as mud.C and W racing, OK thanks maybe not considering the tabs and fasteners is where I was getting hung up...I will address this on my car before the first race. Suppose I've got a bit before I have to make a move. Merely the fact that there seems to be so many different interpretations of that 1 paragraph would indicate 1 english may not be everyones first language or...and I'm leaning this way, they could have done a better job on the "clarification". The clarification didn't clarify much to me. I still have no idea if a normal race car set up consisting of 4 primary tubes with a 4 into 1 collector that has 2 tabs with 1/4" bolts like 90% of us have is eligible for an Advance Auto muffler clamp and hanger.
What I do know is that the Collector Tethers that I ordered came on time and fit perfectly. Fitting perfectly might not sound like much, but I had very specific dimensions with no real margin for error. Moreover, I took them on an airplane with me to Cali, so if they were wrong I was pretty much screwed. I think this has been the most overblown deal I've ever seen. It's not like they're saying you have to buy new ones every 2 years, it's a one time deal. Mufflers were worth fighting about, this is not, IMO. |

It is a little muddy. My understanding all along was the tether itself should be minimum 1/8 SS cable, and a loop of some kind on each end secured on a primary tube and the collector with a T-Clamp (Aircraft Clamp and several other names). Or you could have used a tether with a loop on each end, the collector end secured by the T-Clamp and you could bolt the other end to the frame with a bolt thru the frame. I have sent this to NHRA thru SRAC for clarification. Sometime what they mean and what gets printed is different. There seems to be confusion on the multi piece exhaust that run all over the car like plumbing pipe which I think some Fords got.

NHRA is requiring 2 methods of retention if you headers have removable collectors. Conventional method plus one of 3 options.

Dan, I don't think it's the cost of the parts (though it may be in some cases) needed that has most scratching their heads. I believe it's the apparent vagueness of the wording and the revising that has most wondering...my self included. Heck less than 100 dollars and you're sweet, but again why put it on if the NHRA is just gonna rescind it or change it again. Merely my opinion. Joe
