Warning to classified users

^^ I've never had any weird (scammer) calls (so far) while posting on CL.

I will however sort of disguise my phone # so spam bots won't automatically put my number on their "potential victim" list.
They have software that can spot a 10 digit phone #.

Instead of numbers only I might use words for some of those digits instead.

I wonder if that is what happened to you ??
Some automatic number detecter picked up on the number you posted ?

I had one text me about my car. It was a south LA (houma) area code and he wanted to pay full price and have his agent pick it up. Said he worked offshore and couldn't pick it up in person. When I told him that I would meet him at No Problem so that he could see the car run, at his convenience, the text messages stopped.

The best thing is: they don't ask questions about the item you have for sale.

I posted a want ad in the classifieds of another car related site, for a part I've been searching for. Guy emailed me pics of what I was looking for with a decent price. Wanted paid by Moneygram and my shipping address.

I told him I wanted 1 more picture of the item and a piece of paper taped to it with his email address written on it. He disappeared.

Not sure if you posted your phone number or email in the ad. There are programs that sniff the net which can pull the email addresses and phone numbers off of your classified ad. Best advice for a Class Racer ad is not put your contact numbers in the ad. Ask interested parties to PM you. It does make it difficult for sites like CL, eBay and Racing Junk for your ads. I got a few of them and told them to pound sand. I wasn't in the mood to d--k around with them. If you do want to have a little fun with them, here is a site that talks about some fun they have had with the 419 scammers. What you have experience is the same thing, they have just transitioned to the next subject of the con (i.e. foreign lottery winner, your family/friend trapped in a country, black money).

Ronnie is right. I posted my car on Racingjunk with my phone number and within a day Ebay called and said they saw I was trying to sell my car and that I should list it on their website.
