Just a little bench racing topic for fun since it's too cold for me to work outside...what does everyone think about the Ford 2.3 or 2300 in Stock? I see it pop up in Pintos, what about a Fairmont or similar, non-turbo?

I ran a 74 Mustang 2 with a 2300. It ran great and won a lot, set many records.

It looks like it gets a 2bbl and decent cam and compression, better than alot of sixes even. Would a C4 suck too much power out of one? Looks like all I see are manual trans versions.

I remember many times years ago at indy it was marty buth and greg philley in the W/SA class final at indy that had the fans on there feet for a thriller. his brother Ellis still active i believe in W/S with the old wagon, can be seen in "wagons" thread. I tried a 74 mustang 2.3 auto/C4 in denver, had a real hard time with it. never did make it work. gave up and parted it out. Randy Hyman.

My dad (Ellis A.) and I share in the driving duties on the W/S Pinto wagon now, but it is actually a completely different car than the W/SA car. That car is still a W/SA car as far as I know and resides somewhere on the west coast if memory serves me right. I always liked that car, almost got to drive it a couple times when I turned 16 but it never worked out! |

About 1980, give or take a few years, Dan Rockwell from NY ran one in a hard chargin
Pinto wagon STICK....either V or W/Stock. Wheels-up starts usually...the car went ROUNDS.... Back when Stock was STOCK....OEM pistons, OEM lift, duration, and overlap on cam, OEM spring pressure, maybe OEM trans....although I heard he might have had a "enhancement" in the rear axle dept! |
