I usually held the record I ran off of back then. Very few were stupid enough to set a record they couldn't run anywhere.

You are absolutely right with your last sentence Ed! However, we aren't in Kansas anymore! All it would take is one racer in a class to screw a class up for a couple of years and unfortunately there are plenty of them out there these days who would trade the 15 minutes of fame for two years of being an also-ran. We can all move up or down one class from our natural class, so if some fool did that we could move.

It would be like it was years ago when bracket racing came along. The slow guys, instead of working harder, went bracket racing. We would not have many cars left. Everybody wants the easy button now.

1974 C/SA record April 12.36 3 points races Englishtown Columbus Fremont
4 cars hit record we put it to a 12.29 columbus 12.21 Fremont 11.91
there was not a car in the country that could run the record after that. Not even the car that set it. 2 Mopars and a Mustang hit it but a Buick killed it

We can take this over to the Econo Mod class thread. But to Dick's point, with the same specs, let's see who actually is the smartest guy around. I resent the fact anyone claims to know how out of control a class will get, just because other classes have been allowed to get out of control. I want to know who's the best without fudging.

So True... It may be some only get to run eliminator for any of a 1000 reasons. Maybe the class spread was already there and they missed the classes being 19 cars at indy. Maybe they chose a car they liked and fit a less populated class making their goal obviously run fast to hit the Q sheet higher. Some started when cars were more do it yourself, cheaper and more plentiful so more similar cars to race.
Still Too Expensive to run today for many or most. Still need a cheaper class that can do both.
