Some local scrounging netted a 10" 4200 stall converter for a C4 and a short block from an 83 Lincoln. it had CFI and 80k, and zero bore wear. Looks like we will try a quickie hone and re-ring, and send the cam off to be reground. Still need correct heads, so next week back to the wrecking yard! Maybe we make it run before it snows again?

This project is coming together way fast! We found a pair of 14x5 front wheels with 185/75R14 tires and front drum brakes at the wrecking yard, as well as a manual steering box. The heads are already at the machine shop and ebay netted Accel wires, cap and rotor, roller rockers, and an oil pan for under $200 total. There is still less than $500 cash invested and this thing is a cam away from running!

I will get pics coming, I brought home an uglier 75 Comet 4dr for myself. My buddys car is a 6cyl, found out that swapping to a V8 costs a bit of cash (V8 Mav frame mounts are not cheap nor easy to find used), so he's on the hunt for those. I paid $200 (actually I traded, but that's scrap value for the car) for mine, and saved the electric fuel pump, fan, and water pump from my old build. Mine already has a running 302/2bbl and C4, plus a trak-lok and 3.00 gears. I am going to do a little cleaning up and change fluids, and drive it around a little, but won't touch anything else probably until spring, when I can baseline the car before changes.
I will start a new thread on it, and keep folks posted. I have a ton of parts credit from the wrecking yard, so I will see what low-buck goodies I can find. Stay tuned! |
