Everyone falls within the "bell curve" .The bell curve(from my nightmarish memories of statistics in orthodontic grad school) is a result of graphing the distribution of a measurement such as average reaction times of different drivers. A natural distribution of a measurement produces a bell shaped curve when you "connect the dots". I believe the question to ask would be: Where do average reaction times of different drivers fall on such a graph?" In any case, great topic Don!

Perhaps what Don wants to know is what is the average reaction time and what is it's standard deviation. From that of course, don would be able to figure out if he is fast or slow and how far above and below the average he is.

That is one of the two reasons why my nickname for statistics is sadistics; the other reason is that statisticians torture the data until it confesses to what they want them to say, or at least that what it sometimes seems like. When I taught econometrics, I used to have my students read an article entitled let's take the Con of of econometrics; I'd also sometimes refer to the course as econometricks.

A very simple Bell Curve like what Don is proposing only needs data of RT from participants, lets use Super stock from Vegas, how many 001 to 1.99 just use NHRA data. Claude

David, is that where the saying comes from, “the data can’t lie only statisticians”

Don,

The correct way to do this type of analysis is a statistical method called ANOVA.

I did a sample ANOVA analysis using 10 drivers with each 20 reaction times. I just made up numbers, so it's not real racers.

I can't attach the file (or I'm not quite sure how), because it's a three page .pdf file.

Give me your email address and I'll send it to you. In the file I added a brief explanation of the various statistical terms (standard deviation, median, mean, etc.), but if you are not familiar with this type of analysis you might have to stare at it for a few minutes before you "see the light".

It is why scientists always want to see they data to make sure they can replicate results, or to quote Reagan, trust, but verify.

Now is the time for NHRA based on The Stats to start looking at the all ignitions systems, ,wide open throttle switch activation and trans brake buttons on Stockers especially( on steering wheels) , cause it is illegal to use (per NHRA) these to cause a delay or a automatically leave ..

By the way I don't think to those who insinuated or implied that I was Concerned about Dan Fletcher I just simply think he is a very good driver and does not need a device to win (FYI) so drop this about Old Dan and I

I do have a concern about other drivers based on The Stats That I have that they are using a illegal way of leaving the starting line .

I do Like the Trust but verify saying by Ronald Reagan

enough of this i am done with this got to work some time lol
