Re: Dan Beale vs. Al Corda
It was a pretty rare situation. The race happened at the 2011 World Series of Drag Racing in Cordova (IL) which also happened to be the final event in the Victory Race Cars Nostalgia Super Stock Series. Although both Corda and Beale had lost in the semi-finals, they ended up tied for the point lead in the series and the rules had no provision for a tie-breaker.
It was decided (quickly) to have a one-run battle for the series championship and it was thrown in with the TAFC, FC and TF final rounds. I announce the World Series with a wireless from the starting line; I rarely set foot in the tower during eliminations on Friday or Saturday and I race on Sunday. In this clip, I'm standing right behind the person shooting the video.
Although Corda is a legend well known at Cordova, Beale is a local God and had rebuilt an engine barely in time to even enter the race. It ended up being quite a story throughout the race which the crowd (obviously) loved.
