Hemi Moose: The Greg Charney Dodge you asked about belonged to Walt Ulrich of Royal Oak Mi. He was an eng. builder for Chrysler. He had it sitting in his back yard, I don't know wher he got it, but had it for a few yrs. He and Greg put it togather and won Indy with it. Don't remember when either '70 or 71. Greg worked as a dyno op. with Walt for Chrysler. Walt, a good friend of mine, is in his upper 70's was a origional member of The Golden Cammandos. If any know where Walt got this Dodge, (an origional 990 ) feel free to add to this.

This car was originally a "doner" car for an altered WB car built at Bransteaders shop for Roger Lindamood. The car was originally "given" to Ron Mancini as a body in white roller. Ron didn't do anything with it, he was building his 68 Dart and Hoover decided I could put it to good use. I got the car with a crashed 65 4 door car for $300 from Ron. I put the car together with all my own stuff. Don't get me wrong, Allot of good people at Chrysler helped me learn real fast what I needed to know to screw a competitive car together and have a shot. I am forever great full for everyone that helped and the great friendships that have endured. Hope this helps, I don't blog much but when I ran across this "description" I had to try and set it stright. Greg Last edited by gregwho; 01-27-2012 at 01:04 PM. |

Ron Mancini worked in the trans lab back then and I was the new kid in the Dyno Lab (next building over) 1967. I found Ron and used to sneek awy from my lab and we would bench race allot. All I wanted to do back then was DRAGRACE, anything at all, it was a true passion. I'm sure I drove everyone nuts. I literally almost lost my job at Chrysler because of all the time off for racing. I would go to allmost every test day at Detroit dragway or Milan when the Racegroup would rent the track. Yea, I had the Dream Job, everything just kinda fell into place. Early on I had a 440 maxwedge Plymouth that I would take to the test days and make about 50 or so runs in a day. Got a lot of practice with the 4spd. Oh well, great fun! Thanks for the intrest.
