I love this last photo of Callahans car.
The first muffler scam ! .....Just think of how many of those Thrush glasspaks were hanging on the back of Stockers like a car club plate. Hemi Moose, That nice red '62 Plymouth looks like Mike Wiley's. ...It actually was a 4 door car that Mike turned into a 2 door post body. Mopar Max did a nice feature on it a few years back.

1968,,,,,
Heavy competition for the 383/343 HP in D/SA (9.50 - 9.99 Wt/Hp) The 62' Plymouth 'Sport Fury', Dodge Polara 500 and Dodge Dart Model #440 got to tangle with new competition; 67' Ford Galaxie 500 LTD with the 427/410 HP 68' Oldsmobile 4-4-2 with the 400/360 HP 68' Pontiac GTO with the 400/360 HP 'Ram Air I' 68' Camaro SS396 with the 396/325 HP 68' Nova SS396 with the 396/350 HP 1968 Winternationals D/SA Class Champion Pete Kost,,,, 68' Olds 4-4-2 (400/360 HP),,,,,,,,,running 12.70's. Pete Kost and his 68' Olds 4-4-2 didn't have to contend with Dave Kempton,,,, Because, Dave went with a 62' Plymouth Belvedere 383/343, which was lighter than his 62' Sport Fury, and was classed in C/SA. Yes, Dave won C/SA with the 62' Belvedere, as he knocked off the 'hot and factory-backed' 68' Ford 428 Cobra-Jet Mustangs that were running in C/SA. A 'big upset' is putting it mildy. A 383/343 HP combination got the D/SA Class back at the 68' Springnationals though 1968 Springnationals D/SA Class Champion Tom Wilson,,, 62' Dodge Dart Model #440 (383/343 HP),,,,,,,,running 12.70's. I'll have to look for that article...there seems to be a few guys doing the 4 door to 2 door swap thing because it's getting tougher to find a nice '62 two door model to work with... Last edited by Hemi Moose; 03-19-2012 at 05:30 PM. |
