Yes I do race, I have a 1968 mustang that I race in SS/FA. My name is RJ Torres. I believe we have met before a time or two Don LoL

For Obama I assume. Your idea falls right in line with his governing style. Reward people who do the Minimum. Take from the people who want to work for a championship. The way I see it, If I don't win a couple races early, I don't have any money or points to chase the Title anyway. The point system is fine, only change needed is to reward the top 3 Qualifiers with points. That would help the AHFS

I know what you mean about the expense it takes to chase points if NHRA would adapt a more reasonable way of getting points it would no doubt cost a lot less and then all racers could chase points not just the 10% racers who have the time and money to chase points in the old antiquated points system we have now .

Don,
Please don't misquote me in an attempt to make it seem like I should agree with you.
The money would come from the races I won, and the points from those wins would be the reason i decide to use that surplus money to chase the Title. If not, I'm ok with the 8 races I go to a year. I have to assume that is the case with 90% of the racers.
Lets talk about rasing payouts

At the current cost of travel, I don't think you could win races and hope to have the winnings generate enough funding to chase points. At best, you could hope for the wins to generate some external support from potential or current sponsors. And at the sportsman level, damned little of that.

Unless you race on a shoestring that is thinner than the one Michael Beard races on, the winnings from one race might fund the attendance of one race, not counting regular wear and tear costs, and not counting contingency payments which are constantly shrinking. You'd have to have a nearly unbroken string of wins, with the rest being final round appearances, with maybe a semi final round finish here and there. If you did that well, you wouldn't need to travel much, or far, in most divisions.

I agree 100% Hagen. If you notice most peoples championship speeches they all start with "I didn't expect to be chasing the world at the beginning of the year" I see more of a problem with the payouts than the current points system by far, when was the last time we got an increase in our purses?
