I got a great Idea. Bring the top 3 in each division plus all national event winners to a track at the end of the year and let them race for the world championship.

Chip that is called an All Star race and it is held in Chicago each year. Only NHRA brings there best in each div not the top three like IHRA.
No National championship should be run in that form. A whole years worth of hard work could go down with a small parts brakeage or bad luck. There is nothing wrong with the current system. If you guys are worried about saving money and fairness just stay home, run a local bracket race or run with IHRA if you like there style. NHRA SS/STK guys Bitc* all the time about getting crapped on but 99% of them pay there dues each year. I think most are ok with the current points system. Don you have bigger fish to fry.

Then it would be just like days of old, top 5 from each division got to go to the world finals and who ever won was the World Champion!

For a "performance based class", there is no points incentive to out qualify, or set national records.
I envision somebody with a top performing car being able to upset the balance of the points structure against traveling bracket racers that can't (or won't; doesn't matter which) build a vehicle capable of setting records or being a top 5 qualifier. And that vehicle could be a new DP or CJ car that opens up the throttle a little more each session or it could be an old Rambler that will give it all in order to set a record or be #1 qualifier. ![]() And in the end, the AHFS will run on an accelerated curve for those that want or need the extra points! The current points system favors those with the $$$ to travel the entire continent and disfavors those that do not. ![]()

Don't forget a sack race. If you loose in the gamblers, buy backs, and in the later rounds you can tally all your points and whoever has the most that's the champ.
