That '55 Chevy wagon would be the Bernstraugh (sp?) "Willys Junkyard Dog" out of Norfolk, NE. I believe Willy Jr (Bill) is driving, but the engine and drivetrain is all Bichlmeier built.
The 5578 permanent number was still available from NHRA. Here is how the car looked 30+ years ago... racing at Thunder Valley Dragways in Marion, SD. ![]() ![]() |

265 now with a 4speed. I can remeber when Gene had a nash in his car with just 3 foward gears. The old car went 11.45 corrected not to bad for its first time out in 30 years. Tom

I agree it is a 150 2dr. wagon. I didn't want to get too technical, but if it had the little side trim, I'd have to call it a Handyman wagon. The "ol man had one when I was a kid, around '58 to '63 when he traded it in on his first V-8, a 283 '60 Parkwood wagon to haul us boys around. My uncle had a '55 Bel-Air hardtop at the time, which must've had some affect on me as I bought my own hardtop in '87, had a lot of fun with it and finally let it go in 2003, to buy my Nova and get back into racing after a 15 year layoff.
If anyone has an old June '93 Popular Hot Rodding laying around, check out the centerfold feature, and theres my old '55 Bel-Air,,,my 15 minutes of fame I guess. Danny Durham |
