I recall Dave Wren getting one of these Hemi convertibles as well. It was referred to as the "Get Ray Allen" car at the time. I think it was red,. with a white top. I may be wrong. Dave is still around. Not sure how it fared racing against Ray though. JimmieC. |

Re: Ray Allen versus Jack Werst '1970 SS/EA Showdown'
Does anyone in the NJ area know how to get in touch with Frank Brenniser? He had purchased my '69 Camaro SS/EA, and later my SS/GTA Monte Carlo. He owned and ran a junk yard at the time. Any help would be appreciated.

Didn't he rename the Monte to the:The Dismantler"?? Was that the same car that became: Smooth Operator (Gricco)? Speaking of S/S Monte Carlos' I spotted Hoffman's old S/S Monte (areo rear window) at a Sunoco station in Avenel. N.J. this past week end. It looked like a fine bred race horse that has been put out to pasture. JimmieC |

Your intake was done by Bill.....that was his work and he always signed it with his little Crow picture. Those intakes were good and untill the Darts came along there was not many intakes that would be better. Bill also did some Holley intakes and they were basically copies of what we saw from Lee Shepard. Runner extensions in the plenum.....Made big low end torque. Shepards work was just about the best you could get and if he did it....well it was worth copying.... Bill spent hours and hours on intakes and really hated doing them because of all the time. He did a lot of welding and grinding and then had to polish them. No way you could make any money doing those things. I have to laugh when I think of the time he overheated his old cheezy welder and it went up in a cloud of smoke......He went and bought a big old clunker but it could tig weld all day and not overheat...... A Victor Jr for a small block was worth probably .15 on my old SS/JA 350/255 over an untouched intake. I think you had a Chevy II for a while with that engine in the same class.... I do also remember Brenniser......He had a big Monte Carlo and came to our shop a few times.......I think he broke too much stuff and quit...... Those early days of welded and ported SS heads was no bargain.....We never did any welding on cast iron heads....Epoxy on the intake side was all that I can recall us ever doing..... I left Crows in 1991 or 1992........Used to go there for some stuff of my own as I had a Stocker in 96-97 and had Bill do a block for me......Haven't seen him since.......

Mike Gricco's Smooth Operator was a different car. If anyone knows how to reach Frank, please let me know. |
