Around 40 years have passed since this happened but I am 99% sure it was Ronnie Traffanstedt in his wagon. In the 70's we ran a one day points meet at Blaney Dragstrip in SC. Not allowed to race on sunday so it was all done in one day. This was when we ran from Top Fuel on down at points meets. I was working the scales and fuel check during eliminations and Ronnie was going rounds. Think this was when we ran off the records so any advantage was big. Around the qfinals Ronnie asked if we were tearing down winners and runner up or just winner. I said likely just winners because it was getting late. After he won the semis he asked again. Same answer. He then told me the other car in the final was big in the motor but he woudnt win so he didn't have to tear down. Ronnie said he would prove the other car was cheating by leaving in 3rd, going back to 1st and the other car would not pass him. Sure enough the other car didn't pass Ronnie and was really shocked when he came by the scales and was told we were tearing down winner and runner-up. First the RU said okay then argued about it. Buster finally gor involved and the RU never did tear down so he was banned for 1 year.

Mike Boyles " Good ole Charlie Brown" 57 Chevy The End. The "Class of 65" wagon now campaigned by the Koopmans is a pretty darn cool stocker but Boyles car has been so active for so long it's hard to not give it the nod. Boyles even ran the 11.90 class during the Billy Myers IHRA era. Come on Rev! Get the 65 back out!!!

In today's sportsman racing, it would have been Super Stock. Back then, it was Modified -- the only Wagon I know of, which won multiple world championships in the class. Gene Fulton's white wagon.

The Vista Bruiser saw SS action ,but the rest were Stockers but were sure tops in their day. They still were some of the more exciting cars to watch, especially Tons o Fun, The 3 foot high chassis twist wheelies were amazing for a car that size !
