That's funny. I think Cal originally made this post to do a roll call for the race, not to open up a forum for people to moan and whine about the things they don't like about the race. Sounds to me like a lot of people need to read Bambi again (If you have nothing nice to say......).
That being said Lisa, Mike and Myself will all be there. I am hoping for a great turnout. Wouldn't it be great if this race could become something we all looked forward to every year? How often do we all get a chance to run at a top notch facility for a healthy purse, with National event contingency? As Beard said, if you don't like buybacks, DON'T buyback. But not coming to this race BECAUSE of the buybacks is just a copout. I say we all show up and make it a party! After all, we can't forget the real reason we all race --- FUN. I invite anyone to come by my trailer and have a cold one with me to celebrate the awesome opportunity that IHRA and MIR are giving us. Eddie Bolton |

Sounds like a fun race with an outstanding payout. But could someone tell me the reason for buybacks in the Stock/SS classes? Two reasons are fattening the pot, which a)helps to guarantee the full payout b)potential profit for IHRA/Track owner. Not really a bad thing but buybacks have been the signature of big buck bracket races.Just some thoughts.

Ed & Eddy,
I agree with what both of you are saying, I don't like buy-backs either ... But , I think it's best to try something & make comments afterwards , rather than not going at all ... Seems like we are always looking at the dark side first & not giving this race a chance ... We know that everyone can't & won't make this race, for different reasons ... Don't you think it's the wrong way to look at this Race, the entry - fee looks right, 5K looks good ... No Race in Div. 1 & 2 going on that I know of, I can understand why Div 3 guys aren't coming ? So what's the problem ( buy-backs) then don't buy-back , but support the race .... Remember we have been asking for Big money races for years, well now we have one so let's support the people who support us ? Also , this being the very first 5K IHRA money race, they are still trying to sort things out ... Let's make this Race a big success , so we can change some things for the next race @ VMP .... Remember , it's all about having choices on where we can race in the future & who supports the Sportsmen racers... Come do your part & make this a yearly event ... What do you say , lets get this off to a good start , see you @ MIR ....

We can improve by trial and error. If no one wants to support with this in mind ,then it may be over,,,,You don't like buy-backs as stated =don't buy-back....But please come and give this race the support it needs.Maybe as someone has said before ,we can have a minimum car count for no buy-backs........Get enough cars ,we will not have to buy-back hopefully....See y'all there. We will be putting superstock motor in at MIR on Friday.(hope it ain't HOT...lol..

I really don't understand the extreme aversion some apparently have against buy backs. Whats the big deal? I kind of like the idea. How many times have you driven a very long ways to get someplace and done something really stupid first round. Heres the second chance we all secretly beg for on the way back to the trailer.
Its not this way at every race, just this one GAURANTEED $5000 TO WIN event that Skooter has dreamt up in an effort to help, promote, grow, etc his sportsman racer following. Seriously people.... |

Dave is correct you do have to try something out before you start to bring in the negitive's about a race. There is only so much writing down on paper and brain storming you can do in your head. It's not until you actually run the race and then look back at what can be improved upon that you make the changes for the next time. Trust me I'm going through that right now with the .90 Race I'm putting on in August. Everyday I sit down I think of something else that we can do or improve upon to make things easier for the racers. As I said before I would love to come down and support this race but, I'm the president of the S/C Assoc & I'm in points for MASGA so we already had a race scheduled at Maple Grove before they announced this race and we couldn't move it. Good Luck to everyone, hopefully this race is a success and they continue it next year because isn't this what we as sportsman racers have been asking for and for once people are listening, just look Lee & Brian's 10K Race, Napierville 10K Race, MIR 5K Race, VMP 5K Race all for Stk/SS and for the .90 Guys you have MIR, VMP & the .90 Nationals all paying 5K.....WAKE UP!!!

If you win the first round you dont have to worry about buying back.....LOL. I say give it a chance. Besides the Millers are some of the best track owners you will ever meet. Again its a great biting track and Royce and IHRA didnt have to do this you know. Im sure they could have made more money with less head aches putting on a show that didnt even have stock and S/S involved. It should be a great show for sportsman car lovers and not a circus act like some of the NHRA national event shows have turned into lately.

They are also giving free spectator admission(need coupon). You have to pay $5 bucks to park and $10 bucks to get in the pits. There should be a boat load of spectators there also.
This is the first one. I'm sure IHRA will adjust in an effort to make everyone happy. Chip Johnson |
