My random ramblings on this event.
Greg, are you sure about the no "heads up" in S/SS? I think that heads up applies. You should read the flier. On the buy backs, it doesn't really bother me much. I figure if I beat the guy/gal once I can do it again. What else really doesn't help is that it is scheduled on top of the Joliet Nationals/Jegs All Stars. Already snubbed northern IHRA racers forced to choose will probably stay away. Just look at the Joliet entry list in all the classes. Lot's of IHRA regulars. I have a IHRA gold card and we are going to Joliet. If it was not on top of Joliet we would definately be coming with all 3 cars. On the class run offs, that is a dead issue with IHRA. I begged, pleaded, and even demanded of Mike Baker that we race for class and he flat won't change his mind. Says there are not enough cars showing up to warrant the time. My thoughts are that policy certainly will not encourage any more entrants. I applaud MIR and IHRA for trying so hard to put together such a cool event for the sportsman racer and wish everyone tremendous success. I only wish that there was a bit more thought and planning put into the date. Joliet is a very popular event with the sportsman racers. Right up there with Indy and Norwalk.

Alex how can they run heads up when there are random pairings. Maybe after 3rd round when the cars are laddered.

Ok guys ,Here is what is happening the last i heard,
You will qualify at least 2 sessions . You will be on a ladder 1st round like always...With heads -up runs in effect(scales and fuel check) If you loose and want to do the re-entry ,all the re-entry's will run each other and probably wil be paired off the original qualifying sheet from ther respected q-position... All the re-entry winners will go to second round. The second round ladder will be set by the original qualifying also by picking all the winners in order off the original q-sheet.(1st round winners and re-entry winners) And from there you will have a set ladder til the end....still having possible heads - up runs.. How does this sound to you guys...? I suggested this to Scooter and he seemed very interested in this system as you will still have heads up throughuot the whole program without random pairing and everybody chasing everybody to the lanes in hopes of a heads-up... If you do like this idea ,you need to e-mail Scooter and let him know. This is about as fair as you can get using a re-entry program... Guess what ,there will not be many playing the ladder except for a 1st round by, so there shouls be some fast runs at MIR cause it can handle these cars very well....

Danny,
I was told the re-entry rd would be random pairing but everything else would be on a ladder. Guys, I don't like BB/Reentry either but to pay the 5 grand they will need them. You are still paying the same entry you would otherwise and running for 5 times more money. Chip |

I'm a bracket racer that runs S/SS. I would prefer to keep S/SS events of any kind with no buybacks, HOWEVER, you have someone putting on a $200 entry for $5,000 to win GUARANTEED purse... with the track record of support that racers have been (not) showing, it's hard to blame them. Personally, I'd like to see a car count minimum on it saying "No buybacks if over XX cars", but hey, it's a trial run. It's probably also worth pointing out that if S/SS racers are so adamantly against buybacks, then nobody will buy back, so it will become a no buyback race by definition. ![]() Quote:

That's funny. I think Cal originally made this post to do a roll call for the race, not to open up a forum for people to moan and whine about the things they don't like about the race. Sounds to me like a lot of people need to read Bambi again (If you have nothing nice to say......).
That being said Lisa, Mike and Myself will all be there. I am hoping for a great turnout. Wouldn't it be great if this race could become something we all looked forward to every year? How often do we all get a chance to run at a top notch facility for a healthy purse, with National event contingency? As Beard said, if you don't like buybacks, DON'T buyback. But not coming to this race BECAUSE of the buybacks is just a copout. I say we all show up and make it a party! After all, we can't forget the real reason we all race --- FUN. I invite anyone to come by my trailer and have a cold one with me to celebrate the awesome opportunity that IHRA and MIR are giving us. Eddie Bolton |

Sounds like a fun race with an outstanding payout. But could someone tell me the reason for buybacks in the Stock/SS classes? Two reasons are fattening the pot, which a)helps to guarantee the full payout b)potential profit for IHRA/Track owner. Not really a bad thing but buybacks have been the signature of big buck bracket races.Just some thoughts.

Ed & Eddy,
I agree with what both of you are saying, I don't like buy-backs either ... But , I think it's best to try something & make comments afterwards , rather than not going at all ... Seems like we are always looking at the dark side first & not giving this race a chance ... We know that everyone can't & won't make this race, for different reasons ... Don't you think it's the wrong way to look at this Race, the entry - fee looks right, 5K looks good ... No Race in Div. 1 & 2 going on that I know of, I can understand why Div 3 guys aren't coming ? So what's the problem ( buy-backs) then don't buy-back , but support the race .... Remember we have been asking for Big money races for years, well now we have one so let's support the people who support us ? Also , this being the very first 5K IHRA money race, they are still trying to sort things out ... Let's make this Race a big success , so we can change some things for the next race @ VMP .... Remember , it's all about having choices on where we can race in the future & who supports the Sportsmen racers... Come do your part & make this a yearly event ... What do you say , lets get this off to a good start , see you @ MIR ....
