@Finespline - I had never read the book, although I think there had been excerpts printed in a few magazines.
@Ed - I thought it strange that somehow Islip had moved farther out on the Island than the Hampton's!! @Jack - I also remember the race first-hand. I took my then-girlfriend to the show on Sunday while on leave from the service. We almost got nailed by Bill Jenkins' SS/D '68 Nova in the pits that morning, so I guess I shouldn't have been surprised when she broke up with me when I bought my 69 Nova!  Those were the day's! Lew
