Only the low classed cars think that way. If they had to give a lot of head starts they might see what it's like having a car drive past the tree while you are watching it. I'm in the middle, meaning I have a lot of pairings both ways. I prefer to leave first. Driving the finish line is easier with the fast car, not the starting line. If the first car goes red, the 2nd car often sees if he could push the tree further than normal, or just decides to not sit on the trans brake any longer for no reason. I know I do both. The lights I see from many of those 8 second hood scoop cars I get to race, when I go red, I know they weren't trying to cut a light. They just said "heck with it" and left.
2nd car red does NOT mean he would have been red with the rules changed. Some people just need to get over it, or build a faster car.

If we were to be democratic about it, and took a vote among actually active racers ( and since most actually active racers have the faster cars, or cars in the middle that see it from both sides) the vote likely would be to leave the rules alone. Mostly the guys wanting it changed don't even race that much, or run a slow enough car that they most always leave first. If you read light, it's your fault. Did you not know the rules when you chose what car to race?
