For a Auto Manufacture to win the Manufacters Cup it has to be current production model year vehicle. No Cobalts in 2011 no Pontiacs since 2010 0r 2009.

That is how NHRA wrote the rules!

Would it be better for the teams to have to go out and buy all new bodies with already limited sponsorship?

I am looking at a 2011 GM Performance Parts catalog. It has Cobalt, Pontiac, and even Oldsmobile parts listed. Maybe they should remove that stuff too?

It is not as bad as what they did to stock by letting all the new create motor cars in.

If a manufacture want's to play the game it forces them to really help the racers just go back and look how Olds played and how many Stock & Super Stock racers they help whic forced Pontiac to help, Chevy really nevwr figure that out!

Maybe a lot of you don't understand the Manufacturer's Cup and the points.
Points are given to current year Stock, Super Stock and Pro Stock cars for the manufacturer throughout the year at both national and divisional races. The manufacturer with the most points at the end of the year wins the NHRA Manufacturer;s Cup.

In the Olds days, this was an important tool for advertising and pride within the corporation. And Olds cared, a lot. Won the Manufacturer's Cup more than any other, as well as more years in a row.

And, of coarse, it was good for us sportsman racers, as the people at Olds understood that stock and super stock points were as good as Pro Stock points ....and cost a hell of a lot less to get.

Hense, the support we, as sportsman racers received.

Could be that way again, if the corporations could only see it. These were good years for the sportsman racer. Great memories for me.
