Bret,
I've tried and tried to remember the name of the track at Hazlehurst and can't. I also remember going to my first drag race at the old dragstrip on Hwy. 49 just north of Jackson, Ms. can't remember the name of it either. I took 10 years off from drag racing and went stock car racing and have raced or been to just as many oval tracks too. Now that I think about all that, maybe that's the reason I'm single these days.

Me personally have only raced at 10... but Rusty Hall and I (on a long roadtrip for work) calculated that he has raced at more than 88 that he could remember off the top of his head by name. I will try to get him to post them all.And hell he aint THAT old!

Did anyone race at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh? I understand they put in a drag strip for a special event. Trying to remember all the tracks I have been too over the years. One summer I was going to school and lived in N.C. Every weekend we would go to a different track. A lot of 1/5 mile tracks as I recall.

Tim,
It was July 2-3, 1971. I was not even thought about yet, but here is a link to some photos from that day. Thanks to Bill Truby! From what I understand, 1500 sheets of diamond plate were placed on the ball field. There was about 300' of track and 300' to stop. The sand traps were the warning track in the outfield. If both cars lost brakes, the left lane got the hole in the outfield wall and the right lane got some hay bales. There were no incidents, but after the dew set in, a couple of cars went out the door sideways. A few broken rear ends proved traction on the metal decking was not lacking when dry. Some other goodies from the weekend were the national wheelstanding championships, a 50 woman "hot pants" eliminator and what could have been the first Tri-State Stock-Super Stock Series Race won by Pittsburgh's own 4 Speed, Big Block, Chevy Master John Kunsak. It looks like there were as many spectators in the stands than our current Bucco games. Probably why it was not done again. Carl Jr. http://www.pittsburghinternationaldr...vers/index.htm Quote:
