You and everyone else are debating the new cars. They fit the rules. Even the factory submitting a low HP number is within the guidelines.
My guess is that the next change will be aftermarket rockers due to all the rocker failures we will soon see! |

You may see a decrease in rocker failures.
You cannot cut the head to get the springs on (unless I read the rule wrong), so you won't see small blocks going from a 1.25" spring to a 1.437" spring, and you won't see a big block going from 1.55" to 1.65". What you will see is more beehive springs, since the rule is now clear. Honestly, all they did was to allow you to run any spring that fit in the original head without modifying the spring seat, you don't have to run a 1.55" dual with damper on a big block now, you can run a 1.55 dual without a damper, or a 1.55 beehive. Or a 1.437 dual, if you can find one stiff enough. You need to understand what actually limits spring pressure, and it isn't just the size and configuration of the spring. Do I see it as a further escalation of the stupidity? Sure. Do I see it as a major issue? Not nearly so much. There are bigger problems for us, as the payout gets further behind, the new cars get more out of control every year, the Division schedules shrink as well as becoming more convoluted and conflicting, and a host of other things get worse. This valve spring rule is a drop in the bucket compared to the rest, going crazy over it compared to the other issues would be like wasting a $10 bill to save a dime.

It really is an insignificant change as, Yes, there are already springs that do the job. It may actually save some people money, as they are not limited to the configuration rules we had before. It took me a few sets to get a spring for my 427 that fit the "single spring with damper" required for my combo. With this rule, I would've had an easier and less expensive time getting the spring I needed.

You are a very smart man or your method of prediction is near unbeatable. That is where the rocker arm situation is headed. Roller tip or full roller is probably coming down the road. |
