Shouldn't Jr. have been put on the ladder even if broke and his opponent given a competition bye? Just wondering. Joe

That's the way it usually is when the tower doesn't know about the break. The gentlemanly thing to do is alert the tower that you won't be making the call, and they will remove you from the ladder. Not many people do this, however.
