Does anyone remember a 68 Ford Country Squire called the "Jolly Green Giant"?. It used to really wind up a crowd to watch this tank get to half track and then see if some COPO/Hemi/FE combo could reel it in. It was some 352/390 combo that must have put it in, like, triple Z automatic....................
The Jolly Green Giant was Frank and Opie Moores 351 powered wagon. They had a wood grained Counry Squire wagon that was most sucessful also and won several IHRA national event and was world Champ one year. He drove the squire wagon from NC to Lakeland Florida one year, changed the rear pumpkin to racing gears and won the event. This was back in the mid to early 70's. He raced a 194 inch 6 cylinder Chev 2 with a P/G after that then kind of disappeared from the planet.

1970 Ford T-bird, 429 cid, 360 hp factory and NHRA. Fits naturally into I/SA. 4,490 pounds. Might be one of, if not the, heaviest I/SA cars around.

As I recall it was a 67 Galaxie wagon and was powered by a 289 2 barrel.
I spoke with him about the car when we were both racing the IHRA national event held at GLD in Union Grove WI in the late 70's.
It had the longest set of header collectors I ever saw. At least 48 inches long.
I also met Ricky Smith for the first time at that same event. He was rather difficult to understand then.

One big problem with all these combos ,as I see it.

NHRA doesn't seem to care much for the lower class cars. Neither do the higher class guys. So , they got together and voted out > Deep Staging<.

Wow! a new Camaro weight is greater than a Torino Station wagon. Great, will never see a Camaro in Stock.lol This is what you get when you get engineers from Australia do a retro design on an automobile they've never seen in their lifetime. My kids for Fathers Day rented for me a Challenger which I really loved driving plus it looks great.(sorry for taking this in the wrong direction)lol CR

Does that mean the Camaro would be a good candidate for a demo derby?
(I didn't mention the Challenger because I'm a Mopar guy.)
