Ed,
Didn't the dumping start with Ronnie Sox in 68'. He could run 10.30's on a 10.84 in June 68' for SS/B with the Hemi Cuda. Maybe we could put little camera's in the car, or pressure spring device on the gas pedal, to make sure everyone goes all-out. pc |

Just because something slipped through tech in the past doesn't set the precedent that it's OK. If it's wrong, it's wrong. Not everything gets caught everytime through tech. That "But it passed at the Gators or the Southern Nats." is BS. Doesn't mean it's alright.
You can't really expect the tech men to catch everything, everytime can you? I think I just said the same thing three different ways.

[QUOTE]One last comment. I also believe, unless your car is broken, and you can prove it, then running to a 1000' should be a DQ. It wasn't allowed back in the day and it shouldn't be encouraged or tolerated. [QUOTE]
I don't know how far back "in the day" you are talking about, but in the mid/late '60s (cant say before 1964) really fast guys didn't always run all the way to the finish line. Since we didn't have these dumbed-down too-soft indexes back then, fast guys couldn't run flat out in eliminations (we were only allowed 1/10th under the national record) in good air. Had to leave the record to where we could still run them in the heat. Couldn't just dial further under in good air. Many guys would not run flat out during time trials at national events, since sub record passes were considered record runs. "Dumping at 1000" is nothng new at all. Heck, Jack Mullins was the best at that. Bobby Z, I agree with you 100%.
