Tube chassis bracket car. He had ordered a body in white, but the delivery date kept getting pushed back, so he bought all of the parts separate. Here's some of the story and buildup pics.

The Classification Guide lists one model - SS (Super Sport) and one engine! There couldn't have been a whole lot of thought put into this - did they scale a car right off the assembly line to come up with that weight?

It kind of makes you wonder if GM even cares if anyone races a new Camaro or not!

Sure, it can happen, and it happened back then, but why would it happen now? Other than someone who is loaded and will pay whatever it costs to build a "new Camaro", because they just have to have one, who even wants it? Relatively slow, heavy, and no real advantage to the HP factor, it doesn't inspire anyone to go spend big bucks to have one. The Mustang and the Challenger have it covered easy. Where's the incentive?

Once things are sorted out, and with some fair classification for ALL the new Camaro models/combo's, I think you'll see a good amount of the 5th gen Camaros running in Stock and Superstock classes. The heavier convertible models could also end up ok, as well as the V-6 models in stock classes. Body-in-White-built cars will show up and be impressive, especially in Superstock. Another positive--- it's new and needed work for racecar fabricators and engine builders.... Some have been chomping at the bit to get these cars in the guide...Chevy finally has a new dog in the hunt and everyone's wondering if it'll be a good hunter, or just a plain dog....well, they've been pretty good hunters in the past, so let's see what they've got this time around....Soon they will be raced---just like all the other new cars we're seeing trackside, pricey or not..... Actually looking forward to their appearance at coming events, just like many others here as well. Good luck to anyone putting one of these cars together....This is my .02 cents only.... WJ

Terry, Yes, the Mopar SS/AH cars are "off the chart" to build and keep running, just as the 427 Fairlane Thunderbolts, but it also seems to take WELL over $100K to put a good Challenger DP stocker, or Mustang CJ stock or superstock car on the starting line these days, as well. (and maybe a certain few 427 '69 Camaros and Corvettes, too!) Time will tell how much $$ and effort it'll take to make the 5th gen Camaro go fast..... WJ
