And I can think of plenty of ways to cheat with a digital dash in the car. A data logger is NOT the same; it logs data. It doesn't display it as you go down track. The more I think about it, the more I think there shouldn't be anything but sweeping gauges in a class car, nothing digital.

That's what I was told in the late '90s - no digital gauges where the driver could see them during a run - period. Reasoning was "We have no idea what data those gauges are displaying." Guess that's gone by the wayside. Guess you could argue that a lot of factory cars had digital dashes.
