I'll vote with you Chip. If he has the iron vortec heads and intake. Look up the crate motor specs on the IHRA website. He'll probably have to change the compression (piston change), call either Bullet or Comp Cams for a cam. Unless you get lucky like I did and find someone with spare parts (got my Ross pistons -new- and a used Comp Cam for the 330hp). Maybe post a wanted add thru the sale forum and maybe look through Racing Junk as well.

Didn't look to see where he's from but he could run combos with this. Maybe an IHRA divisional. Like you said, get his feet wet. Build the car with the mindset of setting it up for NHRA legal stock later. Figure out what NHRA combo you plan to run and start collecting pieces.

Why all the knocks on the IHRA crate combos? I'm no expert on this but the guy can feel free to PM me and I'll help him in any way I can. If I can't get my own car ready, be glad to see someone else make it out.

im leaning more towards the NHRA stock setup..i would like to hit all

the div.4 races...i could really use some help finding the correct serial

numbers for the block, heads etc(1982 malibu wagon classic)...the nhra site is confusing to me,not
exatcly sure what numbers to look at..i may have found a 305..a fellow racer around here has 2 305s that may work..i just need to get the correct numbers to compare them..he also has a th350 that i can use..may have found a good deal on a q-jet carb, and a convertor also..trying to find a sponsor to help with this deal, but the odds of that are very small..hopefully one of the 305s match,,i would be in pretty good shape if that happened...everybodys help is very appreciated and i can damn sure use every bit of advice anyone can give me..

thanks-colton

There are other places, but the 2 that have the info I think you are looking for are

http://www.nhra.com/competition/blueprints.aspx

and

of course

http://www.nhra.com/competition/classification.aspx

But there may be more info in the accepted products list (?)

http://www.nhra.com/userfiles/file/N...edProducts.pdf

But I dont see block numbers on the Blueprint guide ? Maybe the SBC dosent matter ? We have them on our guide, but.....well who knows , maybe someone who actually does could shed some light on this.

I have been "told" that block numbers "dont matter" ? But well I was a little leary of that, if thats the case why are they in some cases listed ?

We had talked about sleeving a 6.1 block to the right bore for a 5.7 at one point....(before I realized I had 2 new 5.7 blocks of the "right" number available in my storage Guess it pays to be a pack rat.

Colton, go to a div. race coming up in Nhra in your area. Find someone with your combo and do some talking. You'll probably find more info than you can rememeber and maybe some one with some spare parts cheap and role in and be competitve. Then you can build off that and be faster as time and money permit. But race Nhra, Ihra and some Assc. races good luck and have fun. (I agree with Charlie on this) and I think he know's your combo well.

Colton

I think I have a Alum intake for the 305. Stop by the pits and I will give it to you.
