As far as the engine goes I do not know of any 383/440 legal to use alum heads. Still waiting for all the Hemi experts out there to tell me whats the deal on the 1964 hood pins. Henged or pined or both???? Last edited by X-TECH MAN; 10-11-2009 at 04:26 PM. |

Want to stir up more "POOP" ? Which wheelbase is legal? The Hemi cars came with a 1 inch shorter wheelbase than the Max wedge or 383 cars.

Terry,
Bringing up wheel base....that's not fair. Stir, stir.. LOL! There is only one legal wheel base. You know, the wheelbase has to do with the original car/combo chosen. Just ask me all about wheelbase. I've earned the right to be an expert. I guess you could split the one inch difference (between Hemi and Max wedge) and it would still make the 3/4" rule and be legal.

Hinged. Most had two front pins though.

The Chuck Raburn car was Tim Heberts car which was Jim Hale's car who built it as a clone. A very good car. I suspect Jim has just built another clone. He may have the hood scoop worked in smooth, but I doubt if its glass. Lift off mmmmmm our original had hinges.

Maybe it was a change as they were built ??? but the pictures I have show 4 hood pins and complete removal of the hood in the pits and placed on the roof of the cars. (Both Dodge and Plymouth). Hayden Profitts, Roger Lindamood, Dan "smoker" smith and a solid red Dodge that I cant identify. Maybe one of the "Senior" Hemi (1964) racers will read this thread and comment. Thanks for your comments.

The 1964 Hemi Alum front end 2 door Plymouth Savoys and 330 Dodge 2 door sedans assembly line produced for S/S (and A/FX) are the cars I was refering to and are the ones that CAME factory equiped with 4 threaded rods and large wing nuts to hold the hoods on with. I was NOT talking about the Belvedere 2 door hard tops (alum or steel) or made up cars like Dave Wrens Fury hard top. Farmer could have made them do anything back in the day. and it became a "trickel down" effect after all of the 45+ years.
